Biography

Dr. Imelda Macías serves as the Assistant Vice President of Family and Community Engagement at Saint Xavier University. Over the last 10 years, she has held a variety of progressively responsible leadership roles at SXU starting with director of Graduate Admission, project director for three U.S. Department of Education Title V grants, executive director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and vice president of Inclusive Excellence and HSI Initiatives. A first-generation student born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Dr. Macias' passion for education and commitment to student success is demonstrated by her work in developing and implementing strategic plans, programming and initiatives to promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture as well as a sense of belonging for SXU's diverse student population, families, staff and faculty. She is very involved on campus and serves on several institutional committees and student-led organizations.

Dr. Macias received her doctor of education from Governors State University, MBA from Saint Xavier University, and bachelor's degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. Her area of research is focused on the role of Hispanic-Serving Institutions in enrollment, retention and graduation rates of first generation Latinx students.
